The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is taking Africa’s voice to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York, United States, through high-level parliamentary diplomacy. President H.E. Dr Fateh Boutbig is leading a high-level parliamentary delegation to the session, which runs from 22 to 29 September 2026 during the General Assembly’s High-Level Week.
The mission aims to advance African perspectives in international deliberations and to promote parliamentary diplomacy in the service of peace, sustainable development, human rights, good governance and continental integration.
During the session, the delegation is scheduled to take part in the General Debate and in high-level meetings at UN Headquarters on issues including the right to development, climate action and a just transition, sea-level rise, pandemic preparedness, the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, and nuclear disarmament.
Dr Boutbig is expected to deliver keynote addresses at Heal@UNGA81 and at the Global Distinguished Leadership Award Ceremony, and to contribute to a parliamentary dialogue on legislative leadership and climate-resilient economies.
“The Pan-African Parliament carries the voices and aspirations of the African people,” said Dr Boutbig.
On the margins of the session, the delegation will hold bilateral meetings and courtesy calls with African Union institutions, diplomatic representatives, and international parliamentary and development partners. The engagement supports the PAP Strategic Plan 2024–2028, which seeks to strengthen the Parliament’s representative role in continental and international decision-making.
