How the Parliament Meets

The Parliament holds at least two ordinary sessions within a period of twelve months, and a session may last up to one month.

An extraordinary session may be requested in writing by two-thirds of the members, by the Assembly or by the Executive Council through the Chairperson of the African Union. It discusses only the matters set out in the request, and ends when the agenda is exhausted.

Members receive at least twenty-one days’ notice of an ordinary session and at least fourteen days’ notice of an extraordinary one.

During a session, sittings run from 09h00 to 18h00 from Monday to Thursday, with a two-hour lunch break, and from 09h00 to 12h00 on Friday, until the Bureau decides otherwise.
