The Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), led by its President, H.E. Dr Fateh Boutbig, met with African Ambassadors accredited to the Republic of South Africa as part of preparations for the First Sitting of Permanent Committees and the First Ordinary Session of the Seventh Legislature, scheduled to take place from 20 July to 1 August 2026 at the Pan-African Parliament Headquarters in Midrand.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the newly elected Bureau to formally introduce its vision and priorities to the diplomatic corps and to reaffirm the Parliament’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with African Union Member States through their diplomatic missions.
Addressing the Ambassadors, President Boutbig called for a renewed partnership between the Pan-African Parliament and the African diplomatic community, describing the meeting as an important reset at the beginning of the Seventh Legislature’s mandate. He underscored the critical role of Ambassadors in supporting the work of the Parliament as it advances legislative dialogue and addresses the pressing political, economic and social challenges facing the people of Africa.
The meeting also reviewed the programme of the upcoming Session, during which Members will deliberate on key continental priorities, including governance, peace and security, economic integration and sustainable development in line with Agenda 2063.
As part of strengthening institutional engagement, the Bureau and the Ambassadors agreed to revive the PAP–Ambassadors Working Group as a platform for regular dialogue, cooperation and information sharing. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together to advance the objectives of the Pan-African Parliament and the broader African Union agenda.
