Pan-African Parliament and Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network Sign Cooperation Agreement in Baku

President Dr Fateh Boutbig, on an official visit to Baku, was received at the Milli Majlis by Speaker Sahiba Gafarova. Their talks focused on parliamentary diplomacy, institutional cooperation and the role of parliaments in advancing multilateralism and sustainable development.

The central outcome of the meeting was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Pan-African Parliament and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network. Dr Boutbig signed on behalf of the Pan-African Parliament, while Ms Gafarova signed in her capacity as Chairperson of the Network.

The agreement provides for regular meetings between the leadership of the two institutions, closer engagement among their parliamentarians, cooperation between committees, and the exchange of delegations and expertise. It also commits both sides to coordinate their positions in international parliamentary forums.

Under the memorandum, the two institutions will develop a joint action plan setting out priority areas of collaboration and will review progress on a regular basis.

The cooperation agreement forms part of the Seventh Legislature’s efforts to strengthen the Pan-African Parliament’s external relations. It follows Speaker Gafarova’s attendance at the Parliament’s First Ordinary Session of the Seventh Legislature.
