Pan-African Parliament President Meets Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister to Strengthen Parliamentary and Diplomatic Cooperation

The President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), H.E. Dr Fateh Boutbig, and his delegation were received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr Jeyhun Bayramov, for talks on strengthening parliamentary and diplomatic cooperation.

The two sides discussed expanding cooperation between the Pan-African Parliament and Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, as well as strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and African countries. They noted the growing ties between Azerbaijan and several African states, including long-standing relations with Algeria.

Minister Bayramov spoke of his country’s development efforts and of its experience as a relatively young independent state that has faced conflict and destruction along its borders. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to peace, stability and development.

Dr Boutbig described the engagement as parliamentary diplomacy that complements traditional diplomacy, stressing the need for dialogue among states and parliaments. He reaffirmed Africa’s aspiration for permanent representation on the United Nations Security Council through reform of the UN, and he backed deeper cooperation on peace, sustainable development, multilateralism and international cooperation.

Describing Azerbaijan as an important partner, the PAP President pledged to continue building on the relationship between the two institutions.
